The Judge in the Alex Murdaugh trial, Judge Clifton Newman, ordered the evacuation of the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro, South Carolina Wednesday. At around 12:30 p.m Wednesday afternoon the evacuation was ordered during the double murder trial. As of now Murdaugh was taken to a police car outside though it wasn’t clear where the judge or jury were taken.
The perimeter of the courthouse was blocked off and a heavy police presence could be seen. The public isn’t being allowed on the sidewalks near the courthouse either.
At the time of the bomb threat, Prosecutors has just called in their 38th witness – a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Agent – Brian Hudak in. Though then it was reported the judge ordered the evacuation.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have to evacuate the building at this time so we’ll be in recess until we discover what’s going on.”
As of now the jurors are on an early lunch, until 2:30 p.m but it is possible the court will not return to session for the rest of Wednesday.
