Police were called to Selma High School Tuesday after multiple students showed health issue signs. Somehow four students were exposed to something laced with fentanyl. Ultimately one 16-year-old sophomore student passed away while four others were taken to a local hospital, but are expected to survive. Authorities think that the exposure to fentanyl may have come from a painkiller. However, they are waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports to confirm where the exposure came from.
Authorities close to the situation are not sure what happened and are hoping before people can jump to conclusions and make assumptions on the case they can figure out what happened at the Texas High School.
The Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson has said that it doesn’t take much fentanyl to kill you. While the School Superintendent has decided to not penalize students who missed classes Wednesday, following the incident, as the event has affected the entire community.
Fentanyl has become a top leader in the U.S. opioid crisis. Where Fox News has stated that around 75% of all drug overdose deaths in the last few years were linked to fentanyl.
