Early Friday morning Florida man, 23-year-old Shavell Jordan Jones, open fire on his girlfriend and her family killing four in an East Orange County home. Jones gunned down his 29-year-old girlfriend, her 28-year-old sister, the girlfriend’s 49-year-old mother, and her 4-year-old niece. Two other children hid under blankets to avoid getting shot and the girlfriend’s other sister ran to a neighbor’s house to escape the shooting at which time police were called. After shooting the four he turned the gun on himself but survived before being taken to a nearby hospital. Jones and his girlfriend had gotten into a fight Thursday night and Jones had been moving his stuff out of the home though at around 4 a.m. Friday he returned to shoot the family.
Police have said that, other than failing to appear in court for a misdemeanor charge, Jones had no criminal record. They also said the house had no history of known domestic violence.
While it is too early to tell if Jones will survive the self-inflicted gunshot to the head, if he does survive Sheriff John Mina has said he will be charged with the murders.
