Owen County Indiana homeowner, 39-year-old Gilardo Garcia Salinas, died during a home invasion Wednesday night. Owen County police officers responded to an active home invasion Wednesday night where they found the homeowner, Salinas, outside his home and injured. After police unsuccessfully attempted to administer first aid Salinas was pronounced dead. The investigation into the invasion is still underway, while only in its beginning stages.
Police have reported that in their preliminary investigation they found that Salinas and two suspects exchanged gunfire during the invasion though by the time investigators arrived on the scene the suspects have fled.
It is believed that the suspects escaped in a gray or blue passenger vehicle though it is unknown what direction they went in, or the make or model of the vehicle. It is also unknown if the suspects were injured.
The investigation’s next steps seem to include obtaining video footage from nearby locations and following up on leads.
While little is known about the incident, the police department says they do not believe the public is in any danger.
