Tuesday, 30-year-old Kendall Howard shot two Newark Police officers when police attempted to question him inside a local Newark business. When officers received a tip that a concerned citizen recognized Howard from another shooting police entered a business to try to question the suspect about the tip. Though they were unsuccessful inside, Howard approached the officers in a parking lot outside the business. When the police attempted to question Howard in the parking lot “ a violent interaction occurred,” resulting in Howard shooting the two officers “in close range.”
While the two officers are expected to survive, one was shot in the face and shoulder and the other was shot in the leg.
Howard was able to escape the parking lot and has remained on the loose since Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
New Jersey investigators are asking for any information on Howard’s whereabouts. Police have described Howard as a 6-foot 3-inches tall, 180 to 200-pound male with brown eyes, who goes by the name “Book.”
