North Carolina Man Identified as Criminal Through Severed Finger

Last week a severed finger was left behind at a home invasion in North Carolina. Now the finger has led police to its criminal owner. Last Thursday an armed man tried to force his way into a home when the homeowner attempted to start his vehicle in the driveway. After the two men struggled and the criminal’s gun went off the homeowner slammed the door shut on the man, in what is believed to have caused the man to lose his finger.

After Burlington North Carolina police responded to the home invasion Thursday morning, they were able to find the finger and take it in for forensic examination.

Investigators were able to take fingerprints from the finger and identify the owner as 67-year-old Vernon Wilson of Hillsborough. Wilson was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited felon. Wilson was held on a $250,000 bond.
