Condé Nast’s cooking brand “Epicurious” will no longer be publishing recipes that include beef in an effort to push “sustainable cooking.”
In a post to their website they wrote:
For any person—or publication—wanting to envision a more sustainable way to cook, cutting out beef is a worthwhile first step. Almost 15 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally come from livestock (and everything involved in raising it); 61 percent of those emissions can be traced back to beef. Cows are 20 times less efficient to raise than beans and roughly three times less efficient than poultry and pork. It might not feel like much, but cutting out just a single ingredient—beef—can have an outsize impact on making a person’s cooking more environmentally friendly.
Today Epicurious announces that we’ve done just that: We’ve cut out beef. Beef won’t appear in new Epicurious recipes, articles, or newsletters. It will not show up on our homepage. It will be absent from our Instagram feed.
We know that some people might assume that this decision signals some sort of vendetta against cows—or the people who eat them. But this decision was not made because we hate hamburgers (we don’t!). Instead, our shift is solely about sustainability, about not giving airtime to one of the world’s worst climate offenders. We think of this decision as not anti-beef but rather pro-planet.
Of course, when it comes to the planet, eschewing beef is not a silver bullet. All ruminant animals (like sheep and goats) have significant environmental costs, and there are problems with chicken, seafood, soy, and almost every other ingredient. In a food system so broken, almost no choice is perfect.
Ironically, the importation of fruits and vegetables from overseas can produce more carbon emissions than the raising of animals for consumption as noted by the BBC. This move has come shortly after Earth Day and a big push from activists to sway the Biden administration’s goals for reducing carbon emissions.
THAT is the greatest Idea I have heard!! Billy Goat Gates should sleep in his Garage with his running vehicle to compare the safety of sleeping in the same confinements as your cow.
Go f*** yourselves
WHY? I suppose because cows are flatulent? Get real. I heard a story on social media. One woman writes to this effect: “Bill Gates said that cows are bigger polluters than cars.Let’s test the hypothesis. I will sleep in my garage overnight with my cow. Let Bill Gates sleep overnight in his garage with his car running. We will meet in the morning to discuss the results.”
Well, since I don’t read Conde Nast, I don’t care. So many publications are barely staying afloat because they have no market, yet woke companies still want to push their wokeness over trying to appeal to a general market. I guess they must be getting some payoff from the left, because otherwise, go woke, go broke. So, many of these woke companies may find themselves with no customers after a while. I say good riddance to all of them. It’s time conservative patriots have their own businesses for everything, and give no business to the woke crowd. They don’t deserve our business.
Let them eat Brussels sprouts. They’ll pass more gas than all the cows in the country combined.
A “woke” schmuck?
Well since I have never heard of them, I don’t give a rip but of any magazines or websites that I subscribe to who says they are going to stop posting beef recipes or if I notice they are not adding beef recipes, I will cancel my subscriptions immediately. Who is Biden to decide that Americans should eat less beef. Is he now a tyrant. So he wants to put the cattle ranchers out of business just like he put the pipeline workers out of their jobs. What we eat is a personal choice just like voting and getting the vaccine or not. This man is so screwed up by listening to these climate control idiots.
