The latest target of cancel culture is the beloved cartoon character Speedy Gonzales.

New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow wrote about the Dr. Seuss debacle, which we have written about here and here, and in this article he mentioned the beloved cartoon characters Speedy Gonzales and Pepe Le Pew. Blow claims that Pepe Le Pew, the Warner Brothers skunk, promoted rape culture and Speedy Gonzales, the Warner Brothers mouse, popularized negative stereotypes about Mexicans.

The voice actor for Speedy Gonzales, Gabriel Iglesias, came out in a tweet condemning the cancel crowd for coming after his character.

It is rare to see a Hollywood actor like Iglesias to stand up against the woke mob, but it is a good sight to see none the less. Luckily for Iglesias, others are standing up to defend the beloved character as well.

From Fox News:

The two decades-old “Looney Tunes” characters were in peril recently after a New York Times columnist took issue with them in an op-ed about six nixed Dr. Seuss books.

The essay prompted Latino fans of Speedy to push back on Twitter.

“I loved watching Speedy Gonzales growing up,” wrote one user, @soytaquitobelle. “He always outsmarted the ones trying to catch him or attack him. I’m Mexican. I don’t want him ‘cancelled.’”
