A Survey from Edelman used exclusively by Axios has been run for several years and it shows what people have to say about the media. This year’s results are not surprising for most but for journalists, this survey has served as a major blow to their pride.
According to Axios:
- 56% of Americans agree with the statement that “Journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations.”
- 58% think that “most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public.”
- When Edelman re-polled Americans after the election, the figures had deteriorated even further, with 57% of Democrats trusting the media and only 18% of Republicans.
These results are not shocking, the mainstream media is dominated by narratives driven by the DNC in the eyes of most people. Journalists for publications outside of the big networks often have extremely political tirades on social media while still claiming to be arbiters of truth.
Another interesting thing found in this poll was that Americans are more likely to put faith in the CEO of their employer than the media.
When Trump supporters were specifically polled it was found that they were more likely to trust government leaders than journalists. That being said, only 28% of those Trump supporters polled were likely to trust government officials as opposed to journalists who only 21% of Trump supporters said they had trusted.
