Lancaster County Mayor Rex Parris has declared that not wearing a mask is equivalent to being a domestic terrorist. This news comes after months of rioting, destruction of both private and public property, and threats of violence against all manner of individuals from groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter. While making this declaration a vote of no confidence will be held for the department of public health in the county. More from The LA Daily News:
“If it were up to me, anybody not wearing a mask when they are out in public would be arrested,” Parris said. “That’s an act of domestic terrorism and should be treated like one.”
Ultimately, Parris couched the county’s public health effort as distant, and not inclusive of a region where a local public health department could better contain the virus — and effort he said was akin to Pasadena or Long Beach, which both have their own public health departments.
Barger, who represents the area, echoed Parris’ frustration.
“The outcry from the public regarding this week’s decision by the County Department of Public Health to arbitrarily close outdoor dining proves that local communities should have input into any of the decisions that deeply affect their residents and businesses,” she said in a statement.“I fully support these efforts by Mayor Parris and other elected officials who are pursuing every opportunity to ensure their local voice is heard. We must also address the problematic nature of countywide health mandates and instead target health orders more locally as efforts to slow the transmission of COVID continue.”
The virus has taken an enormous economic toll on the country and small businesses are being wiped out as a result of lockdown enforcement. Big businesses are thriving and continuing to grow as the public only has the option to shop at these stores. Declarations like that of Rex Parris are hurting those looking to get move on from lockdown policies that have destroyed so much. The declaration also serves to infuriate those whose livelihoods were ruined by Antifa and BLM.
