Democrat Policy Staffer Shot Dead In Detroit In Apparent Murder Suicide

A young Democrat policy staffer in Detroit was gunned down on Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide. As Freep.com reports:

The Detroit City Council and others in the community are mourning after a policy staffer and well-known political activist was the victim of what police say was a murder-suicide Sunday.

DeAndree Watson, 30, was found shot to death in his vehicle at the Willow Creek Apartments on Fairwood in Westland. Westland police said they found Watson’s body after responding to an OnStar panic button notification.

A second person, Deontez Jones, was found dead in an apartment of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, police said.  The investigation is continuing but police said the two men were associates.

Watson worked in the office of Detroit City Councilman James Tate as a policy analyst. He was also the director of the New Leaders Council’s Detroit chapter. Before working for Tate, Watson worked in former City Council President Charles Pugh’s office.

The exact motives for the shooting remain unclear.
