The GOP could be passing gun control soon, but the scope is not defined yet. Breitbart reports:
President Donald Trump again indicated Friday that Republicans could lead the way to expand background checks for Americans purchasing firearms.
“I think that Republicans are going to be great and lead the charge along with the Democrats,” Trump said.
Trump said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was “totally on board” with the idea and said that even “hard-line” Senate supporters of the Second Amendment were interested in the idea.
He said he also spoke to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) about the issue.

Many years ago, I joined the Naval Amphibious Forces on the USS Eldorado (AGC 11.) I gave up a piece of my life and some body parts. My feet were were damaged. I never complained. I was almost killed three times. Now I can barely walk. I would do it again if I could. Now President Donald Trump (who I voted for) is advocating Gun Control. There are plenty of good people who own guns. Why does he want to punish them? Lock up the criminals and crazies and leave the good people alone! We have not committed crimes!
Trump et al could well blow it. Will they so manage is another question, perhaps.

Please excuse me for questioning background checks. However, almost all of the “mass killers” purchased their guns AFTER passing background checks and those that didn’t obtained their guns illegally.
Further, when the police use “no knock” entry methods AND someone is injured or killed, it is the innocent people who are harmed/killed.
The police believe it is safer for them to use “no-knock” methods (maybe it is for them) and experience has proven that, when errors occur and when innocent people are attacked by police using “no-knock” methods, it is the innocents who suffer.
Remember that when red flag laws are used to take lawful people’s guns, they ARE innocent, yet, they are being attacked WITHOUT due process.

But it is an excellent weapon for protecting property against varmints, especially wild hogs and coyotes in the area where I live where these present a terrible problem. They are also an excellent self defense weapon if not in a building. Not all attacks are in your house. I wouldn’t be without my so-called “Assault Weapons” which are actually a somewhat underpowered semi-automatic rifle.

Sir, How can you say you are for banning assault weapons when the general public does not have any assault weapons. An assault weapon in the military can be fired full automatic, ie, One trigger pull will fire many rounds continuously until the trigger is released, a fully automatic weapon for the general public has been banned since 1936 and the only way such a weapon can be obtained is tp purchase a federal tax stamp and go through another background check. The weapons that are now in the hands of owers are all semi-automatic, ie, only one round is fired at each trigger pull, The weapons you want to ban only resemble military weapons, they are not assault weapons in any way, the military would not issue a semi automatic weapon to the troops. There are many deer rifles that are semi automatic but do not resemble an AR15 rifle but both are semi automatic in operation neither is an assualt weapon so do you want all deer rifles banned also? All hand guns other than revolvers are also semi automatic in operation but just like revolvers all only fire one round with each trigger pull, so do you want all these weapons banned also? I do not and will fight tooth and nail against all of this nonsense. Your logic is very flawed and is wrong . The 2nd amendment says ” SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED ” and I take that statement very seriously and so should you if you love and believe in our constitution as written .

Dear Mr. President
I am deeply saddened and moved by the tragic events of August 3rd 2019, as I am sure you are also.
The senseless loss of American lives always leaves us all with a sense of loss and questions as to what
could we have done to prevent such atrocities.
While it is always true that we look to ourselves for these answers, unfortunately more often then not they are not to be found there. Our next reaction is to look at what government could have done to prevent this from happening.
Unfortunately we are, at that moment in time not clearly assessing what the total outcome of our emotionally driven actions might lead to. The intent to prevent such atrocities from happening can lead us to negate other valid concerns that might limit our actions to more reasonable and sustainable solutions.
The apparent solution that seems to be occupying the line light is the Red Flag laws. While superficially these may seem like a good answer, a closer examination reveals several issues with these.
A quick look at the direction that California has taken shows several glaring and blatant problems with these types of legislation. When first written it was a member of the family or some other individual with personal experience with the individual that could submit a complaint. But in later revisions it is now possible for someone that does not even know the individual to submit a complaint and have their Second Amendment right suspended.
A complete stranger may not like your political views on any given subject and then submit a complaint to initialize this process. Once this happens the gun owner is deprived of the right to defend themselves BEFORE they are deprived of their property.
After this stage the gun owner who as of this point in time has committed NO crime must retain legal council to defend their position at their now up coming hearing. Please remember as of this point in time they have broken no laws, they simply have been accused of possibly being a threat.
Now the gun owner has had to pay for council to retrieve their property back from law enforcement when they still have not committed a crime.
This is nothing more than an end run around the Constitutionally guaranteed right to self protection from all enemies foreign and domestic. May I be so bold as to remind you of the wording of our Nation’s Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
How in any sane person’s mind can the illegal and unconstitutional confiscation of the citizenry’s arms be deemed an acceptable cost for any undocumented claim of peace and safety. I expect that you are well educated enough that I need not remind you of the words of Patrick Henry in regards to these types of claims.
So as of this point the gun owner has been deprived of the right to be secure in their person, papers, and property. They have been denied due process as their rights are suspended upon the confiscation of their firearms, they have been denied the right of defending themselves in court to prove their innocence as they have already been penalized by the confiscation of their property without a warrant, and they have not been allowed to face, and may not even know their accuser.
Mr. President you have recently come through such an attack by your political enemies and now you wish to perpetrate the same thing on possibly millions of Americans. How can you do that in good conscience, especially after the fiasco with Paul Manafort and Roger Stone. Have you so quickly forgotten how quickly and harshly the arms of despots can cause untold burdens on innocent Americans>
I would like to relate this as it might apply to any other right. Let’s say that there is a site that has an article that I think may provoke certain individuals to violence. I submit a report to the authorities and they go to the news site’s physical location. They confiscate the word processors, computers, notes, and research that the author used to produce the questionable article.
Now the news agency is without all this equipment and their research and their notes because they “may” have instigated a violent response with their article that could result in the loss of American lives.
They can have all their things back in two or three weeks, after they too pay for a lawyer, prepare a defense against an unnamed and unknown complainant, and faced a judiciary inquiry as to whether in the judge’s eye their article posed a threat or not.
Do you believe for one moment that if this becomes the case fro the Second Amendment, the others will not soon follow? A look at the constant degeneration of our rights show that this is exactly what will happen. If the Government will not protect my rights under the Second Amendment, then what guarantee is there that when others are in power they will not use the same tactics and arguments against all my other rights? My right to religious freedom has already been largely compromised by the 1947 Supreme Court ruling in which, for the first time in U.S. History the Supreme Court ruled against the very foundations of this nation. They scissored the term “separation of church and state”. From a letter the Thomas Jefferson had sent to the Danbury Baptists to assure them that the very situation of religious discrimination that we now face would never happen.
If you are asking me to trust our government to protect those rights. My answer is, Sir I cannot. History has shown over and over again that government, while established as the protector of those rights has been the chiefest of enemies of these rights.
What I am asking of you is to maintain the freedom and autonomy of our nation by not circumventing the Constitution and maintaining due process, proper warranting for seizures and searches, proper due process, and the prohibiting of the illegal seizure of the citizenry’s property without that due process.
And that for all citizens, even the gun owner.
The accused is supposed to have their day in court BEFORE their rights are taken, their property seized, and actions taken against them. There is no law in this nation that states that you can be guilty and then have to prove you are innocent, especially for a crime that has not even taken place yet.
Please consider what it is you are endeavoring to do to this people and this nation. If one right falls the rest will follow and the defense of the individual is a task that this, nor any other government is capable of. Do not neuter the Bill of Rights with this slow but certain means of gun confiscation. Do not remove the defensive measures that were guaranteed us by the Founders of this great Nation.

Anything having to do with any form of gun control is a betrayal of all those who voted for and supported our current President. Red Flag laws are a classic example. The soviets used such laws and employed their form of the mental health community to tag people with opposing viewpoints as having some sort of mental deficiency and therefore dangerous. They sent in storm troopers, we would send in SWAT. What’s the difference. The mental health community as well as the Democrat party are loaded with fools, as the Bible says “anyone who says there is no God is a fool.” The fools seem to be in control and our President apparently seeks to join their ranks. If he wants to appear to be working with them, it should be for the betterment of the country, not measures to turn it over to the evil NWO and make us all slaves.
People seem to forget the first portion of the 2nd Amendment: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, …”. So it seems completely in keeping with the meaning of “well-regulated Militia” to have background checks, doesn’t it? Back when the Constitution was written everybody knew everybody in their town. There were no semi-automatic weapons and high capacity clips. These days hardly anybody knows the people in their neighborhood, and even the known crazies can have guns. The Dayton murderer was known by many people to have expressed inclination toward random murders. The notion that the “right to bear arms” should have no regulation is, in point of fact, contrary to the Second Amendment.

90% of Americans approve of back ground checks. I don’t understand why that is an issue. For instance if you are a victim of domestic violence and your abuser owns a gun you are 5 times more likely to be murdered then if they don’t own a gun. Many of the recent shootings have involved folks with serious mental health issues. The anti gun control comments I’ve read seem to indicate that pro gun folks have no issue with these folks having guns. In addition we have a do not fly list because folks are identified as possible terrorist. But they can still buy guns.
What the fascists are trying to do here is to ban private sales on the national level. Background checks are already required for purchases from federally licensed dealers, and all dealers who sell more than a very small number of guns per year are legally required to be federally licensed at a cost of hundreds of dollars per year. Private sales are already banned here in Washington State where I live thanks copious quantities of electioneering money from super-rich fascists and low-information, libtardinal voters west of the Cascade Range. If you want to sell you gun legally, you need to find your prospective buyer and then take the gun with you to the buyer at a gun store. They the buyer has fill out the tricky form on both sides, show ID, and then pay a lot of money dealer for all the red tape.

That would include one that denies the rights provided in our Constitution or wants to “wave” those rights guaranteed in our bill of rights. This isn’t just a second amendment issue. There are already background checks at gun shows and ALL gun stores. There goal is to keep anyone else from selling or giving to anyone outside of that. Any un-Constitutional measures will be in the courts for years. During that time, folks will have taken the names of these politicians and vote them out. Their memory is short. They forget what happened to House Democrats when they approved Clinton’s Assault Weapons Ban in 1994. The next election swept them all out.

There are more firearms in the U.S. now than ever before, yet murder rates have been dropping for decades. 1.2-1.5 million defensive uses of firearms per year.
