Several GOP Senators are crafting a “mega-deal” on immigration, one that would link many immigration issues to craft a compromise with Democrats on funding the wall. The Daily Caller reports:
A group of Republican senators gathered in Sen. Lindsey Graham’s office Wednesday afternoon to discuss an immigration deal to end the 19 day shutdown.
In the meeting there were reportedly five Republican senators, including Sens. Rob Portman of Ohio, Susan Collins of Maine, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Graham of South Carolina. Graham called the group together to figure out a “reasonable compromise” regarding funding a border wall and reopening the government, according to Portman.
“He’s trying to do the same thing that all of us are trying to do, which is find a reasonable compromise on moving forward to securing the border and getting government reopened,” Portman said about Graham to Politico. “We’re still just talking,” he continued.
This comes as House Republicans introduced a bill Wednesday that offers to pay federal employees who work during the government shutdown. Five Republican lawmakers introduced legislation that would require federal workers be paid during the partial shutdown.
Short of making Democrats cave, this could be the next best thing. However, such a deal would have to be examined before passing final judgment on it.
sounds like neither side wants it fixed and since democrats keep counting votes till they win (and republicans do nothing about it) we the people have lost our voice
The listing was the WORST surrender monkeys in the GOP. Anything they consider “reasonable” will result in a major screw-job on the American People. We want a wall, technology, deportation of ALL illegal invaders and prison time for anyone who hires an illegal with exceptions ONLY for provable cases of fraud and failure of the e-Verify system.
Stop Capitulating! Why is it that the Republicans are ALWAYS the ones volunteering to fix problems they didn’t cause? The PARTIAL government shutdown centers on “NON- ESSENTIAL WORK”! So, if the government reopens, the “non- essential work” should NOT be funded again. Why would any sane organization staff [at taxpayer expense] “non-essential work”?
There will be NO capitulation. RINO Pelosi has already stated that there would be NO money for concrete border security.
Courtesy of BOTH Democrats and Republicans, our immigration system and laws are a complete
mess. When, if ever, one wonders, will The Congress (House of Representatives and U.S. Senate) quit screwing around and actually fix the problems that they, and those ever present bureaucrats created?
