Congressman Ken Buck revealed that the situation in Afghanistan isn’t what the generals are portraying it as. Breitbart reports:
Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, told Breitbart News recently that U.S. military generals tell him and other members of Congress that Afghanistan is a “stalemate.”
“The generals speak to us without any political agenda, and so we get a very clear picture from the generals that we won’t get from the civilian side, and I’ve been here with the Obama administration and the Trump administration,” he said in a brief interview after speaking at a foreign policy conference last Thursday.
Asked what generals say about Afghanistan, he responded, “I think the best assessment that we get is it is a stalemate right now.”
That remark — though not attributed to specific generals — contrasts with more optimistic public statements that the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan is working to bring the Taliban to the negotiation table.
This is a grim situation, and Afghanistan could end up being a defeat on par with Vietnam.
A stalemate is what we should expect in Afghanistan. Unless we expect to colonize the place, and I do not expect that, no Americans are going to live there so when we leave it will revert to Afghanis and they will be Muslims easily brought under the influence of extreme Mullahs. That said, a stalemate is effectively a win because while Al Quda and the Taliban are fighting over there they are not fighting over here. When we leave it will most likely revert to being a training ground for international terrorism. Better to fight there than here.
Bring our boys home.. Send our congress men back over there ! No more police actions ! We can use the man power on our own borders. Get out of NATO !Get out of UN !No more Military / US Dollar support for foreign armies !Let’s take care of our own for a change !!
AMEN!!!
Which Western power tried and succeeded in Afghanistan. Name it if you can, then name those that have tried. When will we learn the lesson repeatedly offered by history, and if we ever do, why the hell did it take so damned long?
So let’s fight this conflict like a real war, just like General Westmoreland wanted to do in Vietnam. Unfortunately, Vietnam was called a police action and Westmoreland was ushered behind at desk at the Pentagon.
Result? We lost more than 50,000 Americans with hundreds of thousand more wounded or with ptsd.
These dam fools are doing the same thing in Afghanistan that they did in Vietnam Just why are they putting these people through this misery that British Empire did the same thing in the 1800’s and finally gave up.Russia tried it and gave up.All it does is create a big expense for a few to get rich on.Its about time that these war mongers live and let live.
Sadly, it’s no longer the warfighter who decides how to win the war, but rather the administration who decides how the warfighter’s operations will be limited. If we’re not in it to win it, we need to go home. We’ve not been in it to win it, with a clearly defined victory point and viable plan for post-war rebuilding operations, since WWII.
This is so twisted that it smells, ever since we started the drawdown in Afghanistan , it was decided and announced that we could not accomplish any more there except to try to train their people to take care of the situation which has been met with some success abut also some horrible losses from trainers being killed by people they are training. This is not the first time and it will not be the last.
US should not have gone into Afghanastan.. It is a hell hole where good men and women are sent to die. The country that attacked us on 9/11 was Saudi Arabia. The terrorists were from Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden could have been tracked down immediately in his cave but when troops came into Afghanastan at the start of this war, Bin Laden was allowed to escape from his cave. He could have been tracked down by CIA or other intelligent agencies. There is no reason we should have continued to send troops into Afghanastan, especially after Pres. Trump stated he would not go into Afghanastan. General Mattis is now responsible for having troops in Afghanastan and this is the same as Vietnam. US should immediatly leave Afghanastan. Immediately. Now.
If the US wanted to take over Afghanistan. Really and truly wanted to take it over not just fight a political war. It would be over in a week. What they have now is just a military with their hands tied to what they can or cannot do in combat. If you want victory, you first have to have a war. Neither Vietnam nor Afghanistan we ever declared war. If you have a war you intend to win. You don’t stop bombing a country until they surrender. North Vietnam was only a few days from that, so the politicians stopped the bombing. The same thing is happening in Afghanistan. Forced fail by the military.
Though the two countries are far apart in distance, worship two distinctly different religions for their majorities, their customs and educational levels are different, Vietnam may be ahead of the Afghans in some respects, neither country has sufficiently stabilized under single governments until late. However, Vietnam may now be ahead of Afghanistan in regards to governance. Also, both countries have endured occupations of strong military empires, to which they resisted either outright or covertly.
Let’s just get our people out!!!! Hell the Russians failed also!!!
Not even Alexander the Great could conquer Afghanistan, just subdued it, just like the Americans and allies are doing now!
The main difference between Vietnam and Afghanistan is a loss of 58,000 troops.
winning is NEVER the object-perpetual war and the enrichment of the military/industrial complex is always the objective
