California Gov. Jerry Brown is in the spotlight for not signing a bill that could have helped prevent the wildfires. The Free Beacon reports:
California Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2016 veto of wildfire-related bill is facing new scrutiny in the wake of the deadliest, most destructive week of fires in state history.
The measure would have required the state government’s public utility commission to work with municipalities to ensure that energy companies do all they can to prevent fires in high-risk areas.
When he vetoed the bill, Brown dismissed it as unnecessary and redundant to efforts the utility commission had already begun, arguing that it would gum up the process already underway.
The governor’s critics disagree, especially now that a power line is suspected to have caused the Camp Fire, which wiped out the small town of Paradise, Calif. in the worst fire in state history.
Brown will be leaving office next year, but this is a strong reminder that a politician’s job is fist and most importantly to protect his constituents. Jerry Brown failed in this instance.
Clearly the answer is to take away all electrical power in California to prevent further fires…
There is no doubt that Jerry Brown and his fantasy manmade climate change are 100% responsible. He started this in his first term as governor in the 70’s when he banned clearing dead trees and underbrush since it was “habitat”. In 2016 he vetoed the bi-partisan bill that would have allowed the clearing of the over one million dead trees and the underbrush. In 2017, he CUT the Cal-Fire budget by $53 million. At his news conference on Nov 8, he claimed the fires were the result of “climate change deniers”. So, in his idiocy, if you think a certain way, it will cause fires. He is so ignorant, he doesn’t even realize that HE is the one in control of the state along with his loony leftist congress.
I have been saying for years, that if California would keep the under brush cleaned up, they would not have all of the forest fires the have yearly.
another topic is the mud slides. The people will cut the trees and vegetation on the hill side, which helps control erosion, just to build their mansions. I guess that they like to see their houses slide down the hills.
Remember the “Save the Spotted Owl” movement? Our keyboard commando environmentalists eliminated logging and clearing fire breaks. Perhaps we should sue the Green Peace and Sierra Club types to pay the people of Paradise.
He looked pretty humble in the meeting w new governor and POTUS.. Not exiting on a red carpet.. What happened to desailianation?? Ya can challenge those Santa Anita winds either w unbridled building, developing land that’s vulnerable..
