Justice Kennedy’s announced retirement has conservatives speculate over the fate of Roe v. Wade. President Trump addressed this possibility. The Daily Caller reports:
President Donald Trump addressed his Supreme Court pick in light of Roe v. Wade on Sunday when he said that abortion may soon be “end up with states.”
“Maybe someday it will be to the states. You never know how that’s going to turn out. That’s a very complex question,” Trump told Fox News Maria Bartiromo in a Sunday interview, according to its transcript.
“The Roe v. Wade is probably the one that people are talking about in terms of having an effect, but we’ll see what happens, but it could very well end up with states at some point,” Trump added.
Bartiromo previously asked the president whether he would ask his nominees if they would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. “Well, that’s a big one, and probably not,” Trump said. He added that even if he won’t ask the potential justices their views on overturning a woman’s right to abortion, he will put conservative justices on the bench.
Reversing Roe v. Wade would simply revert the legality of abortion back to the states.
